Adoptive parents, soon-to-be adoptive parents, and adoptees… Have you been looking for teen and young adult stories that explore the experience of being adopted?
Author Hanna Gómez, adopted herself, had often wondered why there weren’t more stories covering this complex topic. She decided to spend some time researching old and new titles, and collected her recommendations in a very helpful blog post titled, “Adoption in YA Lit”.
Gómez explores a wide range of approaches and issues relevant to adopted individuals and their families, from the quest to reconnect with birth parents to international and inter-cultural adoption to the unique challenges adopted kids face when the time comes to define themselves as young adults.
This is one of those blog posts where the comments section can be as helpful as the main article, so don’t skip it! Last time I checked, it was filling with even more interesting suggestions.
