Synopsis: The Childless Mothers Project (CMomA)
“Nearly 1 in 5 American women ends her childbearing years without having borne a child, compared with 1 in 10 in the 1970’s”
(Pew Research Center Summer 2010 Report)
This vision inspires the launch of an important and timely movement, which addresses a sociological shift within American culture, shining a light on women without children, now more prevalent then ever. Some of these women have made this a conscious choice. Others desired and expected they would be mothers, to no avail. Some are single and others have partners. Regardless of their status, there is heartbreak and silent suffering for many over this, as they grieve and struggle with a palpable “void”, while trying to discover where to direct their energy.
Our mission shines the spotlight on this population of women…and It will ALSO save lives.
Around the world 17,000 children die each day from hunger, 8 million are displaced, 2 million are enslaved, 143 million children are orphaned, and 2 billion live in extreme poverty. In many of these places, there is no foster care system, no clean water, not enough food or even shelter, never mind loving arms around them to keep these children safe from harm. Many older children are not wanted because they are considered “damaged” or undesirable, through having suffered early deprivation or trauma, or simply because of their age or ethnicity. These are the children who will shape the world of tomorrow … for better or worse.
Our nonprofit has been formed to build a platform to “cosmically match” these childless women, with the children around the world in dire need of someone to love and care for them.
Our 501-C3 is called Childless Mothers Adopt” ((CMomA)…Embracing Children in Need
MISSION STATEMENT:
Supporting Women Without Children to Become Mothers to Children in Need
There will be two divisions of the organization: domestic (US) and international.
Domestic: We will partner with various adoption and foster care organizations to facilitate matching women without children with older children in need of a safe and loving home.
International: Each year we will organize a group of women to go on our “CMomA Journey”. We will travel to areas in the world where the children have the least amount of resources and slimmest chances for survival. These children, despite their challenges, have the gleam in their eye that gives us hope that they will thrive in an attentive and nurturing environment.
We will also provide a sense of community and supportive resources to accompany these women before, during and after this major life decision and transition.
Funding for CMomA will help support:
* Staff/Administrative Expenses
* Costs associated with the Journey (Travel/Accommodation/Legal/Adoption Fees)
* Follow up Education, Health Care, and Child-Care needs for the children
Our Non-Profit efforts will be supported through topic related vehicles such as a book entitled, Childless Mothers….A New Generation of Women, a Website called: “Childless Mothers Connect”, and a Documentary Film of the Journey experience – “We Hear Their Call”.
