In 2012, CMomA launched our Grant Program. We put the word out to partnering agencies and organizations to let them know, “WE HAVE MONEY TO GIVE” to worthy and wonderful childless women, men and couples adopting older orphaned children. By the end of the year, we awarded our first two grants and we were over-the-moon thrilled.
Our very first CMomA grant was given to Nina, a single woman on the east coast awaiting her toddler daughter from the Congo. We are so touched and excited to share the details with you.
Featured story:
In December 2012, we were delighted to award one of our CMomA $5,000 grants to Nina, a 42-year-young single woman on the East Coast, who was in motion to adopt a beautiful little toddler girl from the Congo. Despite the enormous costs of international adoption, Nina was clear that she wanted to adopt a child with little to no resources… sharing with us:
After she received the good news that CMomA chose her as our first Grant recipient, she wrote this dear note:
Here are some highlights (from email correspondence) of the ups and downs from the wait and uncertainly of this journey for Nina… along with the very happy ending:
Good news, I received court papers from DRCongo the Friday before the storm. Antonia is mine!!! We now just wait for her passport and visa!
I am truly committed to encouraging and making it possible for other parents to adopt. Since I have been more open about my adoption, people ask. I know people want to do it, but are financially intimidated. Thank you for doing this. I hope to join you on the helping side very soon.
Warmly,
Nina

Things are in some sort of holding pattern. We are still waiting for her passport. It’s just the way it goes it what I am told, others have been waiting longer. I am often teary eyed over the wait. She will turn one soon. I post updates, ramblings about a lack of updates, on my blog at least weekly if you’re interested: Please feel free to share it (there’s a post about you and CMomA!).
Impatiently waiting,
Nina

Just got word today for travel in the next two weeks. I can barely breathe. (I’ve been so depressed, anxious… over this!) I will update my blog as much as possible, though will hold details until we’re in the US. I have no idea what we’re in for regarding bonding and attachment. Thank you for EVERYTHING! See you on the other side…

Yes! Feel free to use any of the photos I sent you. No one can take her from me now, and I am very proud.
Thank you for the kind words. It took me longer than most to get here (motherhood), but things have worked out perfectly. I don’t regret one thing.
Lots of love and thanks,
Nina and Antonia
Nina and Antonia are together at last, and we at CMomA are overjoyed for her and this precious little girl. These are the moments that inspire what our mission and vision is all about. Many thanks to all who are helping us help other want-to-be parents and parentless children find their cosmic match. You can visit Nina’s blog at: http://ninaadopts.blogspot.com/
