Today, we’re delighted to honor Karen Malone Wright, founding voice and executive director of The NotMom website and community, and administrator of the NonMom Summit. In the bio on her website, she calls herself a “by-chance NotMom”. She had expected to be a mom, but time and health took another path. Not finding the supportive, positive community that she felt spoke for her, she started her own. We at CMomA are among its many fans.
In nominating Karen, Melanie Holmes writes about her and The NotMom message:
(her words: “Some of our best friends are moms”).
But Karen also works to build connections among women offline:
The Summit was a success on many fronts, attended by 110 women ranging in age from 26 to 69, and attracting local and national media attention. Among the many tracks were volunteerism, financial planning, and aging together in community. The second NotMom Summit is already in the works, set for October 14-15, 2016!
In closing, Melanie adds, “I love her mission, her method, and her intention.” We at CMomA feel very much the same. Karen’s thoughtful articles and astute, frank perspectives are a tremendous contribution, not only to the global child-free community, but also to anyone who seeks to plot their own course with grace in our tumultuous world.
Thanks again to Melanie Holmes, award-winning author of The Female Assumption, for nominating Karen Malone Wright as a Woman Without Children Making a Difference.
